Synopsis
One rescue team after another is sent to Iraq to rescue Gulf War POWs. Each team is captures. Enter Charlie Sheen to rescue the rescuers. Most of the cast is back from the first film, and Basic Instinct takes its lumps along with Rambo. This entry isn’t up to the level of Hot Shots, but there are some inspired moments.
Audio
Just as the movies isn’t as good as the first one, nor is the sound. While generally speaking quite solid, with good music and sound effe…t mixes, the soundtrack does have a few problems. There is occasional dialogue distortions, and the volume mysteriously dips about 48 minutes in.
Video
Not terrible, not great (but it is in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen). The blacks are good, but the flesh tones and colours are a bit pale, and some of the colours (such as orange) are too bright and harsh. Grain is present, but is very minor.
Special Features
Trailers for Hot Shots Part Deux, Kung Pow, Dude, Where’s My Car?, Freddy Got Fingered and Monkeybone. There are two featurettes, both the usual promo thing, though “An Adventure in Filmmaking” has Spanish narration. The menu has an animated intro, but is otherwise still.
Closing Thoughts
Not as good as the original, but still pretty funny. And some days, that’s all you need.
