Synopsis
Lugosi is Count Armand Tesla. Enslaved to his will is Andreas Orby (a very articulate werewolf with an unfortunately cute nose). Tesla preys on the young daughter of Lady Jane (Frieda Inescort), but is staked through the heart. Years later, during the World War II, his corpse is disturbed and unintentionally revived. Tesla returns for revenge, but Lady Jane is not without resources of her own. This is an amiable little B movie, notable not only for Lugosi, but for Inescort as a female Van He…sing.
Audio
The mono soundtrack has been spared the dubious stereo remastering of some war pictures, and sounds just fine. The sound is crisp and clear.
Video
The picture is fullscreen (as it would be — widescreen had not been invented yet). The transfer is fine, but the print is a bit damaged. Some frames are missing in the opening seconds, and speckling is apparent throughout.
Special Features
A basic menu, and trailers only for The Bride and The Revenge of Frankenstein.
Closing Thoughts
On the one hand, the disc is a bit light: no real extras and the movie is only 70 minutes long. On the other hand, every 40s horror film arriving on DVD is welcome, and the case reproduces the original poster art.
