Jennifer Lopez just cannot seem to get it right in terms of film roles. She is a good actress, but every film she has been in has failed to captivate the audience. Maid in Manhattan is overly predictably, and over the top cheesy. J-Lo will someday have the chance to star in a good film, but this is not it.

”Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a struggling single mom who works at a posh Manhattan hotel and dreams of a better life for her and her young son (Tyler Posey). One fateful day, hotel guest and…senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) meets Marisa and mistakes her for a wealthy socialite. After an enchanting evening together, the two fall madly in love. But when Marisa’s true identity is revealed, issues of class and social status threaten to separate them. Can two people from very different worlds overcome their differences and live happily ever after?” – Columbia-Tristar

Audio

The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track on this disc is pretty average. It is not necessarily bad for a romantic comedy, but it does not really stand out either. The surrounds are inactive for most of the film, but the score comes across nicely, and the dialog is clear and well focused.

Video

This disc contains a nice 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The skin tones and color saturation are both very nice, and the transfer is clean from most artifacts and debris. There are some noticeable edge enhancements, but nothing too overpowering. A full frame transfer is found on the flip side… but who really needs to say anything more than that?

Special Features

The only extras that you will find on this disc are a collection of theatrical trailers (Which I enjoyed substantially more then the main feature). The trailers included are for Anger Management, Charlie’s Angels Full Throttle, Daddy Daycare, & The Wedding Planner.

Final Thoughts

This DVD is nothing special… the audio and video are average, but the film is really nothing to write home about. If you dig J-Lo, this is a renter… other then that, you can probably skip it.
