The kid’s from South Park are back to cause havoc in the second season of this hilarious adult-oriented animated series. This season we find out the identity of Cartman’s father, learn about Conjoined Twin Myslexia and thaw out a prehistoric ice man. So join Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as they take on the supernatural, the extraordinary and the insane.

Audio

The 2.0 audio mix included on this set is all that this show needs. The sound is very basic… with no use of the soundstage. But w…o needs amazing sound from this show? I am simply happy hearing these punk kids in all there vulgarity… and I think that having a 5.1 mix might actually take away from the simplicity that this show is intended to portray. The dialog is as clean as you can expect amongst the children’s mumblings, and yes, the F@#%’s are still bleeped. This track will not blow you away, but it will not disappoint either.

Video

Each episode in this set is presented in its original aspect ration of 1.33:1. The transfer is good… maintaining the cardboard-cutout look, while still having sharp colors and contrast. We are still playing with a very standard TV-looking transfer here, but as is the case with the audio, it is all that should be expected.

Special Features

I was quite surprised with the lack of extras included on this set. There is Chef’s “Salty Chocolate Balls” music video, but it is the “Goin’ Down to South Park” featurette that really shines. This 50-minute featurette is one of the most entertaining extras I have seen… and it is educational as well. Trey Parker & Matt Stone are up to their old sarcastic selves throughout, while the story of how south park works is told by everyone else. This is a wonderful mix of comic relief and education content about the South Park world… how the show came to be, how the animation has evolved, who supply the voices, and how the South Park empire is run.

Final Thoughts

As South Park evolves, it seems to get funnier and funnier in its crude and unconventional ways. Never before have we been privy to such a television phenomenon as South Park… and it keeps on growing in popularity. This set is all that it can be expected to be… funny! If you are a fan of the show, you cannot go wrong picking up this set.
