Power Rangers Ninja Storm: Lightning Strikers
Posted in: Disc Reviews by David Williams on September 23rd, 2003
This latest incarnation of the wildly popular early 90’s kid series shows that not much has changed, at least from the writing perspective, in the last 10 years. I actually watched some of the early episodes from the original series because of the novelty of the show. There wasn’t anything like that around at the time on television. However, it became old quite fast and it amazes me that this show, although in a different incarnation, still exists. This series follows the adventures of 3 Rangers instead of the usua… 5, with the remaining two Rangers having some questionable motives. You get what you would expect – some neat fight scenes with plenty of explosions set to a hard rock soundtrack with awful rubber monster suits and bad guys with the name of Lothor. The more things change, the more they stay the same…
Video
As expected for a transfer from a television show, it is presented in 1.33:1 full screen. The color was sharp although the picture was grainy at times. There was some noticeable pixelation.
Audio
This disc is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo. One would have expected a bit more bass response considering the hard rock soundtrack, but other than this the sound is decent. The speech is quite clear and some of the special effects sounds are well done.
Special Features
The special features consists of trailers for the other Power Rangers discs… nothing special here.
Final thoughts
If you are a fan of the Power Rangers, by all means put your hard earned money toward this disc, if not, well…
