Extras

Due to the massive success of the X-Men movie franchise, the WB created an animated television series based on the story… and X-Men: Evolution was born. This show is pretty good, and is targeted more towards children then it is to adults. Don’t get me wrong, the adults who are kids at heart will still enjoy these episodes. This set features each season one episode spread over 4-discs.

Audio

The Dolby Digital 2.0 audio on this set is somewhat disappointing. The sound is not too b…d, but it lacks any real punch and is somewhat un-inspiring. The soundstage is not used effectively; mainly because there is little-to-no surround activity. That being said, the dialog is clear, and the front channels are used well. This track really should have been re-mastered in 5.1.

Video

The video quality of these episodes is very good. The animation is pretty good, the colors are sharp, and there is very good contrast between the darks and colors. There is no overwhelming grain or print damage, but there are some minor edge enhancements at times. All-in-all the 1.33! fullscreen transfer looks good.

Special Features

You wont find much in regards to special features on this set. There are episode introductions by the directors/editors/producers (approx. 6-minutes on each disc), as well as trailers for the other discs in the set.

Final Thoughts

It you are infatuated with the X-Men story, you will want to check this set out. The animation and story are good, and the video quality is quite impressive. The lack of extras and below average audio are downfalls, but should not necessarily stop you from buying this set.
