Cuba Gooding, Jr. is a Secret Service agent who fails to protect the President from being assassinated and attempts to make sense of the events that led to his failure. He is approached by a persistent news reported (Angie Harmon) who believes the assassin was not working alone. Together, they attempt to unravel a conspiracy while dodging bullets in this action fare.

Although the action sequences are fun to watch, the story is just not interesting and the characters are not believable. The direction is poor… and the all-star cast (James Woods, Burt Reynolds, and Ocsar-winner Cuba) put in mediocre performances all-around. Gooding is particularly boring to watch, leaving out all the vitality he brought to his role in Jerry Maguire. Without much flare or intrigue, End Game ultimately disappoints.

Audio

The 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround track is exceptional. Dialog is clear and well located front and center. The music is strong and lively, with great bass sounds. Sound effects lend excitement and life to the action sequences. The use of the surrounds is very well done throughout the movie, putting you right in the middle of the action.

Video

The film is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. The image is occasionally very grainy, particularly in low-lighting indoor scenes. On the plus side, there is no noticeable print damage and the transfer quality is good. Colors are bright and well saturated; the colorful elements really stick out in the gloomy backdrops. Blacks are deep and crisp, although some dark elements have a tendency to blend in too much with the background.

Menus

All menus are plain vanilla text over static image with no score.

Special Features

The only extra is access to 11 trailers for various movie releases.

Final Thoughts

Decent action and an all-star cast just can’t save End Game from it’s uninteresting story. Cuba Gooding, Jr. is dull and uninspired. Like the movie itself, the DVD treatment is also boring, with plain menus and no decent extras. The only redeeming quality of this release is it’s excellent audio track, which work well to bring you into the action.
