Destiny’s Child Live in Atlanta wasn’t exactly at the top of my list for most anticipated movies of this year, but I’ll take it with a grain of salt. This Blu-ray release features Destiny’s Child performing live in Atlanta on July 15, 2005 during their Destiny Fulfilled… and Lovin’ It Tour, which was also the groups final tour.
The Blu-ray features 30 different tracks including appearances from T.I and Lil Wayne during the performance of Soldier, as well as featuring live performances from the …roup and Beyonce’s solo material there were several dance sequences included. You can expect to see the group perform most of the hits including Say My Name, Baby Boy, Soldier, Crazy In Love, Survivor, and much more.
Putting all bias aside, Live in Atlanta is probably a good investment for fans of the group. The concert was well put together and features a lot of the group’s hits, and already having been released for just over two weeks has already reached Platinum status. I think it goes without saying that the fans have spoken and this is a solid release if you’re into Destiny’s Child. However, I am not, so I obviously cannot recommend this disc to anyone in the same boat as me, but as previously mentioned if you like Destiny’s Child this is worth checking out.
Video
Presented in a 1080i 1.85:1 aspect ratio, Destiny’s Child makes an impressive debut on Blu-ray. I was happy to see every group member looking good in Hi-Def, a rare case in many actresses high definition upgrade. Each member goes through various costume changes and each look extremely sharp and colorful. The various stage lighting looks just as impressive, showcasing deep vibrant colors. There are the occasional soft looking scenes, but this is usually footage of the crowd or focusing problems from a quick camera switch. Detail never looked as good as other top tier Blu-ray release, for example you will never see pores on the women’s face. For a concert however, there is no denying that this transfer truly is great looking.
Audio
Live in Atlanta includes a Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM track, both take full advantage of the concerts material. There is no denying that each member is extremely talented vocally, the audio tracks on this disc further showcase that talent. The PCM sounds superb. Every lyric comes through so clearly it is almost as if you were watching the girls live in concert. Every track on the disc made great use of all channels the channels in my setup, definitely one of the most active tracks I have heard on Blu-ray. Even though I am not a fan of the music, there is no denying that the disc sounds terrific. Fans of group will be in audio heaven when they pop this discs in.
Special Features
I was surprised to see any features on this disc. We are given 2 featurettes and 3 audio tracks.
- Destiny’s Child: A Family Affair - A feature that follows the band from its beginning all the way to this final tour. At 30 minutes this will sure to be a nice little bonus for fans.
- Fan Testimonials - We are given a few fans opinions on what they like best about the bans. Nothing too interesting here.
- Bonus Audio Tracks - We are given 3 addition audio singles from the individual members of Destiny’s Child. “Flashback” – Kelly Rowland, “Check On It” – Beyonce, “Let’s Stay Together” – Michelle Williams.
Final Thoughts
I think it goes without saying that the audio on this disc was superb, seeing as it’s a concert disc. The video was as well equally impressive, making it easy to suggest purchasing this disc. But like I said before if you don’t like Destiny’s Child or you’re on the fence about them, stay away from this disc because watching them sing for nearly two hours is torture to some peoples ears.
