History In 3D:
Just in time for the holidays A&E puts together three of their history documentaries and send them out to you in 3D. I’m talking about the History In 3D collection, of course. This is a 3-disc set with an episode on each disc. They come in a nice box with a holograph cover to get you in the 3D mood. Here’s what you get:
WWII In 3D, Titanic: 100 Years In 3D, History Of The World In Two Hours
The Universe In 3D:
“In the beginning there was darkness. And then bang, giving birth to an endless expanding existence of time, space, and matter. Every day new discoveries are unlocking the mysterious, the mind-blowing, the deadly secrets of a place we call The Universe.”
The History series has lasted for six seasons to date. The show uses modern space photography, computer-generated images, and demonstrations along with respected scientists to explore the various aspects of our universe. While more time is spent in our own back yard exploring our solar system, the series does take us to the outer reaches of space, going back about 13 billion years. That’s as far as we’re able to see. The show is narrated by Erik Thompson. Of course, there is plenty of narration by the scientists. Includes three episodes from season 6 in 3D.
Do you have baseball fans on that list? Are they bummed when the season ends each year? A&E has just the ticket for them. It doesn’t come with crackerjack or a ballpark hot dog. Still no one has more great Major League Baseball stuff. Here’s a couple of my top choices:
The Essential Games Of The Philadelphia Phillies:
4-disc DVD collection. Relive four of the team’s most historic moments and even listen to the legendary Harry Kalas and his memorable radio broadcasts. It’s the sights and sounds of classic summers. If the Phillies aren’t your team, what the heck is wrong with you? Even so, they’ve got you covered with the same sets for other teams as well.
WWII In HD:
They’ve been called The Greatest Generation, and who are we to argue the point? Sitting here writing reviews from my comfortable seat in a state-of-the art home theater, I’m in no position to lay claim to the title. They fought in the bloodiest conflict in modern human history. Over 20 million were killed. That’s a staggering number. If you’re like me, it’s not even real. I can honestly say that those facts have never really reached home as much as they did while watching this footage.
World War II has been a favorite topic for Hollywood films since before the war itself ended. There have been some truly remarkable efforts and some equally unremarkable disasters. Many of these films have been long forgotten. Heck, many of them deserve to be forgotten. But something that should never be forgotten is the stuff of this footage. To do so would be a sacrilege of the worst kind. But these war films, no matter how startling the scenes, no matter how real we might think they are, no matter how visceral the experience might appear, nothing can ever capture the reality like this footage has done.
Ancient Rome Anthology:
This 6-disc collection offers up the best from various History documentaries to give you one of the best histories of The Roman Empire. Learn about the Caesars, the incredible technology and achievements. Enter the famous battlefields and see the current ruins from a brand new perspective. If Rome’s not your civilization, there’s also a 6-disc collection on Ancient Egypt, as well. Who says entertainment can’t be educational?
A&E History also has great episode collections of all of your favorite television programs that they offer. Look for shows like Top Shot, Pawn Stars, Ice Road Truckers, Storage Wars, American Restoration, and Ancient Aliens in DVD and some even on Blu-ray.
