Get on the road again…ice roads that is. Our friends at A&E and History have given us a 2 copies of Ice Road Truckers The Complete Season 5 on DVD to give away. Follow Lisa, Hugh, Alex and a couple of rookies as they haul their big rigs over the North American ice roads.

Gino Sassani
Gino Sassani is a member of the Southeastern Film Critic's Association (SEFCA) and The Critics Association of Central Florida (CACF) where he is a member of the governing board. He is a film and television critic based in Tampa, Florida. He's also the Senior Editor here at Upcomingdiscs. Gino started reviewing films in the early 1990's as a segment of his local television show Focus. He's an award-winning recording artist for Omega Records. Gino is currently working on his 8th album Merchants & Mercenaries. Gino took over Upcomingdiscs Dec 1, 2008. He works out of a home theater he calls The Reel World. Favorite films: The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, The Body Snatcher (Val Lewton film with Karloff and Lugosi, not the pod people film), Unforgiven, Gladiator, The Lion King, Jaws, Son Of Frankenstein, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, and Monsters, Inc.

My least favorite ice road trucker would have to be Alex..he doesn’t seem to ever get too excited because he doesn’t do anything exciting!!

Dave. It is risky enough on the ice roads. IMO, the other drivers don’t need his potential addition to the risk and stress. I suppose the show needs drivers like Dave, though, to provide conflict, which he does

Dave — for his abrasiveness/attitude, especially when the going got tough. Even giving Dave the benefit of the doubt that what IRT showed was a few bad moments exaggerated/highlighted to add conflict and ratings to the show, Dave did not deal well with the problems, both as they arose and as they developed

One character trait that reigns important to me is TRUST and the “I GOT YOUR BACK” principle. I found all the truck drivers to be team players and exuded that quality. Lisa, I felt was insecure and needed to prove herself, hence too much of Me Me Me complex. Nonetheless, she is skilled and a competent truck driver, I don’t dislike her per say, she needs to just accept the here and now, I AM THIS, MANTRA.

Hugh Rowland (a/k/a The Bolar Bear). He’s a real jerk to just about anyone who fails to perform to his own ridiculously high standards, and he overworks himself to a point that can be really dangerous.

Working for a trucking company, I just love this show., Working with Truckers, attitude plays a big part in success. Dave Redmon is my least favorite.
