    Sobering thoughts indeed. As Irigaray (1993) posits, “the foregrounding of the gaze, emerging as it does from an underlying postulate that signification is neither directional nor teleogical, but rather meandering and incidental in its tangential association with the signified, itself tangential, and therefore the sine of the sign, cannot long be stable, resulting rather in an inversion of the gaze when, under the semantic pressures of a polysemiousness across the narrative, and multilaterality in the narration, it disaggregates into a multitude of (tangential) component-signs, perhaps thousands of words, of eroticized subtexts, and making, therefore, a picture of love.
