Anyone who is a fan of horror or science fiction knows who Forry Ackerman was. He gave more to the industry than anyone else. He coined the term sci-fi and inspired the likes of Stephen King, John Landis, Steven Spielberg, and many others. He was the editor of Famous Monsters Of Filmland and held the largest collection of movie memorabilia anywhere in his famed Ackermuseum.
I’ve been lucky enough to have counted Uncle Forry as a friend since 1991, when I first visited the Ackermuseum. I’ve spent many hours and meals with him and miss him greatly.

Director Declan O’Brien created the right recipe for the gut wrenching blood-oozing tale that follows a group of friends that decide to go snowboarding during their winter break.
They make the ‘Wrong Turn’ and end up getting lost in a deadly storm with killers in their midst.

They call it Howl-O-Scream, and what a scream it is, literally. I dressed in a Frankenstein’s Monster shirt that was given to me by Sara Karloff, daughter to the late great Boris, herself. Anything to get into the mood. So with proper attire and tickets in hand, Ellen, my wife, and I drove the 10 minutes to the park and quickly boarded the tram of the damned. But this was not to be anything like my last few visits to the annual event. Part of the reason has to do with a series of unfortunate weather circumstances that accounted for a practical loss of one of the scheduled weekends. It was our intention to visit the Friday previous, but constant rain made that impossible. Such was our luck to be there on a Saturday, along with far too many other folks who found themselves packed into the event.
I have both good news and bad news to report from our visit. Let's start with the good news:

Perhaps it is a cliché for a lot of review writers on here to aspire to be “published writers”. To go beyond the webpages that we put out two and three times a week (and in case of some hard working site owners and webmasters, two to three times daily) and produce a physical, published book. For many of us, it is a dream that we wish we could make a reality. Personally, I have had that dream for over twenty years and after hardships, setbacks and general depression, I find myself in a place where I finally feel I can write. Hopefully in these pages, we can consider this another step towards that fulfillment.
Let me step back and briefly describe what the next three thousand words are going to be like before I plunge in. This is my attempt to put a video game in print. I am describing the situations and bringing words to life about feelings and thoughts from the playing the video game on the screen. I assure you that there is no plagiarizing here except pieces of dialogue that flow from the game itself. To be honest, this is a piece of fan fiction about a game that is incredibly rich with story and intrigue.

The 7th of October marks the 162nd Birthday of one of horror's greatest writers. Edgar Allan Poe was born on that date and what a treat for horror fans for centuries to come.
Poe was the first person to gather at the gravesite of Thomas Jefferson while groups from The University Of Virginia argued over their position in the procession to the grave.

With this week's release of The Lion King on Blu-ray we thought we'd share this interview with the film's original directors. You'll find it is just full of wonderful information about, what I consider to be, Disney's best animated feature. Look for our reviews of The Lion King 3D Blu-ray and The Lion King Blu-ray soon.
Q - What is your opinion about Broadway Musical The Lion King directed by Julie Taymor?
A - Rob Minkoff: When I first heard that a musical was being contemplated for The Lion King I was concerned it would attempt to be too literal. Beauty & The Beast had already made the leap to the stage and it was very much a replica of the animated movie. I didn't think that kind of approach would work for The Lion King. When Julie Taymor was brought on board to re-imagine the musical for the stage it was put into the right hands. Her approach to re-conceptualize the show, utilizing her brilliant sense of stagecraft brought out its theatricality and made it a unique experience. When I saw the show for the first time I was delighted and gratified that our movie would live on, on-stage. And it hasn't disappointed having been running since 1997.
