Highly Defined
How long until Madden comes out?
Just the usual news and notes from me, but in mildly disappointing news, RoboCop, and Black Hawk Down, 2 Blu-Ray titles that would have made the race a little more interesting, were pulled or bumped from the released calendar until who knows when (presumably until the whole MGM/Sony distribution issue can be hashed out).
Meanwhile in terms of other release news, while Blu-Ray owners can’t wait for the previously released Warne… HD-DVD titles like Firewall, Blazing Saddles, Lethal Weapon and Full Metal Jacket to come out (on 9/5) to do some more comparison looks, Warner will also release Troy, House of Wax, Space Cowboys and Lethal Weapon 2 to HD-DVD on 9/12. Universal’s October HD-DVD lineup includes 12 Monkeys, The Thing, Spartacus (presumably non-Criterion Collection), Out of Sight and The Interpreter, all slated for 10/24. All of these titles (except Spartacus) will boast Dolby TrueHD audio tracks, meaning that that Toshiba firmware upgrade some of us have been waiting for should be coming out soon…
In terms of releases this week, while HD-DVD folks can’t wait to snap up Caddyshack, there are rumors that the color issues surrounding the SD release of The Searchers have followed to the HD-DVD release. While I don’t have a copy to confirm this, buyer beware, tread lightly and check out the AVS and HTF forums before making your decision. HD-DVD owners will also see The Bone Collector, Good Night and Good Luck and Spy Game, while Blu-Ray owners will see The Devil’s Rejects, Silent Hill, Stargate, Stir of Echoes and Total Recall.
Until next week, high definers, keep your brightness set low and your resolution set high!
