News and Opinions

Here at Upcomingdiscs 31 Nights Of Terror wouldn't be the same without our buddies at Diabolik DVD. We don't really push products or do much shilling here at the site. That's not why you come here. These guys are the real deal. I know a lot of you are horror fans. You owe it to yourself to check these guys out. They have everything from mainstream horror to the rarest schlock. If you can't find it there, you just can't find it. Just click on the graphic to the right of the sight and be prepared to be taken to some wild places. I hope you'll give them a try and tell them Gino at Upcomingdiscs sent you. They are perfect for that Halloween film you're just dying to have.

On Dec 1st, 2008 after eight years working at Upcomingdiscs as a writer, I became the owner. It's been 10 years, and in that time I've found a few ways to make my mark upon the site. In that time I was able to gather a wonderful local Tampa staff that has allowed the site to grow while freeing me to discover new ways to serve our faithful followers. We added an October Halloween celebration called 31 Nights Of Terror. We started to bring you interviews with the folks that work to make the films and television shows you guys love so much. We've tried to keep up with tributes to lost industry giants and provide you with a weekly roundup of what you can expect each week here at the ranch. We expanded our contests and giveaways by working hard to maintain good relationships with the studios that provide all of our review and contest material. Of course, those relationships never got in the way of honest reporting with every review we write. We were the first home entertainment site to bring you a UHD 4K review. I was invited to join the Southeastern Film Critics Association (SEFCA).  I managed to score a player before the guys at Best Buy had even seen one before. Every year I would ask you what we could do better. What changes you would like to see here at Upcomingdiscs. I have read each and every one of your answers. Most of you have been happy with our appearance, but it's gotten a little old, and you deserve better. So I welcome you to the new look for Upcomingdiscs. I hope you'll take a look around and let us know what you think.

We didn't make it more complicated. I always hated when a favored web site changed for the worse. Why do some folks think new and improved means harder to navigate? I hope you find this new site as easy to use as the old one was. So what has changed?

In 2018 I was invited to join The Southeastern Film Critic Association (SEFCA). I was honored to join the group of professional critics and be a part of this year's awards selection. It meant spending most of December watching films. It was a tough job, but somebody has to do it. I watched several films each day. On one particular December day I managed to view seven films. Now the voting is finished, and it's time for the envelope, please...

Runner-Up: The Favourite

We will be continuing one of our best traditions this year. We will post a brand new contest for each and every one of the 12 Days Of Christmas. With the help of some of our friends in the industry, this is going to be the best contest blowout ever here. Check back and enter EVERY DAY. Just our way of saying thanks for visiting us here at Upcomingdiscs.

We hope you  enjoy the massive giveaway. Please tell your friends, and remember us when you buy from Amazon (use our links to get there). It's the only way we can continue to bring these great prizes to you all year long.

You can buy blockbuster films on disc from almost anywhere these days. But if you're looking for classic and vintage stuff, it gets a little bit harder. If you're looking for obscure or foreign horror and science fiction titles, it can get near impossible. I say near impossible because there's a place online that is staffed by the same kind of film fans that we are. They have the largest supply of niche films I've ever encountered, and they've supplied our staff at Upcomingdiscs many times with that special hard-to-get title. I often get emails asking me where to find some unknown title. I always give the same answer. If you can't find it at Diabolik DVD, I don't like your chances finding it anywhere. Help out some folks who are there to help us out. Put them to the test. Tell them Gino sent ya. You can click on the graphic ad to your right, or just bang it here to check out our friends at Diabolik  DVD.

If you live in the Tampa Bay Area you absolutely must check out the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. They have some amazing films from some up and coming artists in the field. Check out the schedule of films at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. Do a little Holiday shopping, enjoy a meal and then see some great independent films.

From all of us here at the Upcomingdiscs Family, I would like to wish you a very Happy Easter.

May your gatherings be blessed. Enjoy some family, sun, and when it gets later, gather around the home theater for a nice family film or two.

Our 31 Nights Of Terror comes to an end. The decorations contest did not go as well as we hoped. There won't be any voting because we only had one entry. The winner of a Troma 3-Blu-ray set is Paul Blacker with the following winning photo:

It's time to tally up the body count for our 31 Nights Of Terror contests. Thanks to all who entered. If you didn't win this time, keep trying. Thanks also to the studios that made it all happen.

Don't forget we'll be serving up our 12 Days Of Christmas Giveaways in December. That's 12 straight days of contests.
