If you take $17,000 from your company and you leave without any form of punishment or prosecution, can your resignation really cite “personal differences?”
You know where your Cedia is? It’s one of the other big electronics shows that helps announce and introduce new technologies. One of the more remembered announcements was Toshiba’s announcement of a 2nd generation HD-DVD player. These newer versions include shorter load times, HDMI 1.3, and in one case, full 1080p resolution. There are two models, look f…r them to come out around the holiday season. Blu-Ray hardware owners can take note that Samsung will be providing a firmware upgrade on their player sometime in October. Wow, one upgrade in 3 months, and Toshiba’s HD-DVD player has had 3 or 4 in about 6. Oh well. The upgrade will supposedly allow for the Blu-Java applications, as well as the 50GB discs.
Warner has also decided to announce Batman Begins for release on 10/10. Along with presumably the extras from the two-disc edition, another Warner In Movie Experience (with participation by Christian Bale) follows. Warner also said The Polar Express would be coming out as well, which should be interesting to see the all-CG transfer on an HD set. Cedia also showed and introduction to the HD-DVD version of King Kong that is getting some rave reviews.
In other disc release news, Blu-Ray announced releases for the following films; Flightplan, Annapolis, Goal!, Casanova, Sky High and The Wild, with all due to street on 11/11. Universal counters with Jim Carrey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas as a HD/SD combo on the same date.
A fairly uneventful release week this Tuesday, in my humble opinion. HD-DVD buyers get to choose from Backdraft, Galaxina and Golga 13, while Blu-Ray buyers have a slightly larger selection, as The Big Hit, Dinosaur, Eight Below, The Great Raid, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back A Knight’s Tale, S.W.A.T. and Tears of the Sun bow for their next-generation debuts. So until next week, high definers, keep your brightness set low and your resolution set high!
