My late father escaped Vienna and joined the British army in WWII. He later joined the Israeli army and fought in the war of independence. He rarely talked about his war experiences (once he said he saved three French airmen from a burning plane), and he had a war scar on his leg (which he never talked about), so there is a lot that I don’t know (and will sadly never know). Certainly, it had a profound affect on him, and he taught me to always respect those in the military and thank them for their service.

My Grandfather served Canada in WWII as a messenger, driving a Harley. He must have seen some awful things because I never heard him speak about his war experiences. My Dad and I both enjoy watching true stories about WWII and learning about what happened during that terrible time.

My cousin served in Desert Storm, and my uncle served in Vietnam. Neither would really talk about it, but we are so proud of them!
