When I was in my early 20s and newly married, I wanted to surprise my wife for Valentine’s day with a teddy. Well, as a dumb male (and this remains unchanged over 20 years later), I wander into a fancy negligee store where I was the only guy. I got tons of strange stares, and they all but laughed when I said I needed a petite size teddy. I basically took the first one that they offered which was red (but not as red as my face was) and gave it to my wife. She absolutely loved it, and loved the “ordeal” I went through even more. I guess it showed her early in our marriage that I will do anything – even make a fool of myself – for her happiness (and, I must confess, mine too!!!)

I got an enormous bouquet of red roses one year, which lasted an unbelievably long time, retaining their heady and beautiful fragrance all the while. From practical, non-demonstrative stock, this was quite the display!

The christmas eve I asked my wife. I had to drive her for a 2 hours ride with her dad’s car -wich had no winter tires- in a big snow storm. Not only was I nervous about THE question/answer but also not to crash my soon to be father in law’s car! She said yes… What a night!

My most romantic gift ever was a trip to Paris for our 30th wedding anniversary, from my husband. We were at the top of the Eiffel Tower at the exact time of our wedding 30 years before.

We dated long distance for the first nine months while I was in grad school abroad…and our relationship progressed via snail mail letters and packages of tiny presents, interspersed with daily phone calls and emails. The entire process was so romantic – it’s hard to choose one in particular!

My husband (Then was my boyfriend) bought me a beautiful set of diamond solitaire earrings when we were dating. It was the first time I had ever received a diamond as a gift. I still wear them today, everyday!

My most romantic holiday gift ever was a “Midnight Picnic” and old boyfriend organized for Canada Day (July 1). He arranged for a chef, picnic blankets, paper lanterns, etc. to overlook a bluff that faced the fireworks and somehow convinced me to go out there with him… It was very sweet.

My boyfriend gave me a kitten, which was a surprise since I already had a cat. I’m a big animal lover so it was a big hit. I did get rid of the boyfriend sometime later but kept the kitten. I definitely got the better end of the deal.
