My greatgrandad Harry was a World War 2 vet. He does not talk about it much, but he served in the Pacific. Was on a ship most of the time and worked below deck. Proud of him.

My wife’s Uncle was in WW2 in Holland and Italy. He never spoke about his experiences. Thanks to him and all who served!

My grandfather Dominic Pinto served somewhere in Germany in WWII. He was wounded in battle and my grandmother was a nurse which is how they met.

I have never known a WW2 veteran. The closest I’ve known is my great uncle who went to Viet Nam and came back with bullets stuck in his leg still to this day.

Hi Yes I come from a 3 generation , my Grandfather fought in the Army in WW11; his name was Thomas Munn, then my father fought in the Korean War and he served with the navy, his name is Roy Nordal; and now my nephew is serving in afganistan, with our Canadian Army, so yes I am proud of our vets.

I have 2 Uncles and a grandfather who were in WWII. My mom was 20yrs younger than her brothers, so her dad and bros. served together. My grandfather & one uncle were pilots.
My grandfather was a POW; after being shot down by the German’s. A funny story about grandpa, is that he and his fellow prisoners got their guards drunk and they ended up marching through some down singing God Save the Queen. Grandpa was courmartialed by the German’s as he was the highest ranking officer in captivity. lol that’s a story that will live on for generations in my family!
My mom passed this past October and while going through her things we came across my Grandfather’s uniform, medals and a telegram telling my Grandmother that grandpa was missing in action.
Interesting stuff!

My late father was a World War II Vet who served with the 40th Battery from Hamilton. He was mostly in Italy from what I can remember him telling me. I really really wish I had paid more attention to his stories about the war. I know it impacted him for the rest of his life and wish I could sit down with him now and talk about how it was for him over there. He was there for the entire war too right in the prime of his life.

I have had the priviledge of knowing ww 11 vets, a few names that come to mind, Albert Hartle (mb), Ida Dunsheath(mb) and Joseph Mowatt (bc). Where would be all be 2day without these courages men & woman

My neighbor growing up was a vet. He was in France & Germany during 44 and 45. Don’t know too many places he visited, but he really talked about the horrors he saw. Seeing friends die in hand to hand combat and then watching the other soldier die by other friends. His name was John.

I used to work on the nursing staff at our local nursing home. While there, I met the most wonderful, quirky man whose name was Jim Selman. He used to fascinate me with his tales of fighting for Canada in WWII. He fought in Africa and Italy until he was wounded and sent home. This sweetheart of a man had the same steely resolve when I knew him that helped him survive the war – he quit smoking cold-turkey at the age of 92 without a single complaint even though he had been smoking since he was 12 and lived for another 2 years after that! I was so sorry when he passed away, he was a really good man.

I have the front page of the Honolulu newspaper distributed by a GI the morning of Pearl Hrbor. Before he finished the newspaper distribution on the base the newspaper was recalled and trashed and replaced by a new front page. This GI from FL has since died of cancer. He sent the front page of the “first” edition to his mother who has it framed at their home. He was out of the fray since being injured the week before Pearl Harbor. This is a “lost” front page which describes the Pearl Harbor attack as imminent but was recalled because the attack had already started. The US government has been lying all these years. Pearl Harbor was not a surprise attack. The government was well aware of the “surprise” but did nothing to prepare the Navy. Go figure!

I knew a man (Rudy) that fought in the war. I do know that he was a paratrooper, but he really didn’t talk alot about what he did. He was very humble, I always told him how brave he was and how proud we all were of him.

My father-in-law was in the 29th Infantry Division of the Army. He participated in the invasion of Normandy-Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, and the invasion of Germany. He had many poignant war stories to share.

I don’t know any WWII veterans but my Grandpa was a WW1 vet. He was shot several times during this war but survived and went on to live to the age of 103.
