Normally, I’d tell you about the PS3 or something, now that it’s out, but if I need to have a bulletproof vest on when I buy a gaming console, something’s friggin wrong in my country.
Snacking on ginger snaps at work while I try to figure out how to kill these next three days, I can’t really tell you anything about the PS3 that you don’t already know. From what I understand, the Blu-Ray capabilities are the best of any of the three machines out there, even if some of the games can’t be played at 1080i or 10…0p. Besides, wait 6 or 8 months for more updated products and (more importantly) a large supply, and maybe you’ll have my money. That’s how I fell into the 360 a couple months ago. Oh by the way, I’ve had to buy new towels from mopping up the drool after numerous hours of Gears of War. What can I say, it’s the bomb yo! Well, Microsoft’s HD-DVD add-on gets to come out this week, so we’ll see how the rebuttal goes.
Title announcement wise, not too much occurred last week. A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation will come to Blu-Ray and HD-DVD on 12/5 from Warner, and Sony will release Gridiron Gang day and date, while Resident Evil: Apocalypse will arrive on 1/16. The Weinstein Company has delayed the HD-DVD release of Clerks II (rumored for 11/28) to January, along with Pulse and Lucky Number Slevin. Universal will prep The Mummy Returns and The Sting releases for 1/16. On the Blu-Ray side, Buena Vista’s The Guardian, Casanova, Chicago and The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will arrive on 1/23. Additionally, HBO will now release Season Six of The Sopranos onto HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on 12/19, while Smallville will see some HD-exclusive supplemental content when it’s released on 11/28.
This week promises to be fairly hollow on the next-gen DVD front (come on, you’ve already pre-ordered all the Superman stuff you could get your hands on), the HD-DVD camp will see the Jim Carrey How the Grinch Stole Christmas film, along with You, Me and Dupree. Blu-Ray owners find the week a little more plentiful for them, as Annapolis, Enemy of the State, Flightplan, Goal!, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Sky High and The Wild. Oh, and not to plug too cheapy, but feel free to check out Ryan E’s look at Casablanca and Brendan’s look at King Kong, last week’s larger releases of note, along with Jeff’s look at Kung Fu Hustle.
