That’s So Raven features Raven (or the artist formerly known as Raven Symone) as a sassy teen who gets into hilarious teen situations. Sound familiar? Raven seems a little Lizzie McGuire-esque, but the difference is in the main character. Raven has psychic powers. That’s right. She has the supernatural ability to see events that may (or may not) have happened. Freaky.
That’s So Raven: Supernaturally Stylish is a DVD that features four episodes from the Disney TV series. An… if Raven looks familiar, she used to play that new cute kid that ruined The Cosby Show. Raven and her buddy Chelsea get into some wacky situations, including going undercover as disco divas. Raven likes to use disguises. Oh…and she likes to act upon her psychic powers. The series ain’t “all that”, but the spirit of the show is fun enough.
Audio
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. There isn’t much use of the Surround. It’s mostly reserved for environmental effects. Dialogue and other sound effects are heard quite clearly in the front speakers. The canned laughter is heard a bit too clearly. The “music video” sounds nice in 5.1 though. A strong Disney audio track.
Video
1:33:1 Full screen. Video is clean transfer. I have a beef with the colors. I happened to catch Raven on TV one night. The colors on the live broadcast seemed much better than this video transfer. It’s an adequate presentation of an adequate show.
Special Features
There’s not much here. A few music videos. It seems like Raven wants to be a music star too, like Hilary Duff. Raven looks like she’s trying real hard. There are also some sneak peeks of other Disney flicks.
Final Thoughts
That’s So Raven is standard teen fare. The problem with the show is that it tries to be bigger than it is. Raven overacts, has psychic powers, and gets into the most outrageous situations. At least it’s not boring. Should you say “nevermore” to this Raven? I guess that’s up to you.
