Synopsis
Nothing much happens in the nothing town where Tobey Maguire and Wilson Cruz live.Nothing that is, until the arrival of sexy Amy Hathaway and her sleazy dad Adam West (yes, thatAdam West). He uses her as jailbait with which to blackmail local bigshots. Then there’sChristina Naify, in town to kill a sleazy doctor. She has a very nice car too, which Maguire, Cruzand Hathaway steal for a joy ride… A little slow in getting it into gear, and a little uncertain intone, but an i…teresting 90 minutes nonetheless. Some very neat turns by the actors, and Beniciodel Toro shows up too, as an ultra-laid-back detective.
Audio
You’d hardly know this was in surround sound, except when the odd train goes by on-screen.There is hardly anything from the rear speakers — even the music is unimpressive that way.Otherwise, the sound is crisp and clear enough.
Video
The colours are nice, as are the contrasts, flesh tones and blacks. (Check out those gorgeoussunsets.) On the downside, the format is cropped to fullscreen — a big boo and a hiss to that.
Special Features
Squat.
Closing Thoughts
A stripped-to-the-bones release, with nothing to recommend it other than a mildly divertingfilm.
