Please allow me to kick things off with a belated, "Happy 2019, everybody!" In the first Tuesday Round Up of the new year, Michael Myers comes home …again! Universal made a killing last fall with its Halloween reboot, and we’ll soon be reviewing the horror hit in 4K. Elsewhere, Lionsgate puts the pedal to the metal with Speed Kills and tries to find the light in After Darkness, while Omnibus Entertainment contends with the Oddsockeaters. Finally, Fox is in for some Bad Times at the El Royale (4K) and swings by Quahog for Family Guy Greatest Hits.
But wait…there’s a bit more! Later this week, we will be reviewing the first would-be blockbuster of 2019: M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass. It might be a new year now, but you're going to get the same weekly reminder before we sign off for the week: if you’re shopping for anything on Amazon and you do it through one of our links, it’ll help keep the lights on here at UpcomingDiscs. See ya next week!

In 2018 I was invited to join The Southeastern Film Critic Association (SEFCA). I was honored to join the group of professional critics and be a part of this year's awards selection. It meant spending most of December watching films. It was a tough job, but somebody has to do it. I watched several films each day. On one particular December day I managed to view seven films. Now the voting is finished, and it's time for the envelope, please...
Runner-Up: The Favourite

We will be continuing one of our best traditions this year. We will post a brand new contest for each and every one of the 12 Days Of Christmas. With the help of some of our friends in the industry, this is going to be the best contest blowout ever here. Check back and enter EVERY DAY. Just our way of saying thanks for visiting us here at Upcomingdiscs.
We hope you enjoy the massive giveaway. Please tell your friends, and remember us when you buy from Amazon (use our links to get there). It's the only way we can continue to bring these great prizes to you all year long.

It’s been almost 15 years since the legendary Gene Hackman was last seen on screen. (His last film was 2004’s Welcome to Mooseport, which is bad…but not bad enough to quit movies altogether!) While the on-screen drought for Hackman continues, the Oscar-winning actor can at least be heard in one of this week’s Round Up offerings. Shout! Factory takes us through the journey of joining We, The Marines (4K), which is narrated by Hackman. Elsewhere, CBS heads west for Yellowstone: Season 1 and trusts its Instinct: Season 1. Finally, Lionsgate goes on a violent spree with Deadman Standing, while Comedy Central gets into business with Nathan For You.
One last reminder before signing off for the week: if you’re shopping for anything on Amazon — a Christmas present for a loved one, perhaps — and you do it through one of our links, it’ll help keep the lights on here at UpcomingDiscs. See ya next week!

The mission for this week’s Round Up, which we quickly chose to accept, was to let you know about some of the new releases we'll soon be reviewing on this very website. Thanks to Paramount, that list includes the latest Tom Cruise spy adventure Mission: Impossible — Fallout (4K), which will be helicoptering (and HALO jumping…and motorcycle riding…) its way onto these pages before long. Elsewhere, Warner Bros. finds some spooky religion with The Nun and returns to the world’s most dangerous theme park with Westworld: Season 2 (4K). Finally, RLJE Films snags tickets for The Ride.
While this is the start of a new month, you're going to get the same ol' reminder: if you’re shopping for anything on Amazon — maybe a Christmas present for a loved one — and you do it through one of our links, it’ll help keep the lights on here at UpcomingDiscs. See ya next week!

I think I see your problem. You have this list. It’s a list of people you need/want to buy a Christmas gift for. The trouble is that they’re into home theatre, and you don’t know Star Trek from Star Wars. You couldn’t tell a Wolf Man from a Wolverine. And you always thought that Paranormal Activity was something too kinky to talk about. Fortunately, Upcomingdiscs has come to the rescue every Christmas with our Gift Guide Spotlights. Keep checking back to see more recommendations for your holiday shopping. These gift guides ARE NOT paid advertisements. We take no money to publish them.
Universal has released a strong slate on both Blu-ray and 4K this year. The Universal Monster films is a particularly nice gift for a fan to find under their tree. Here's more on that Blu-ray set and some 4K titles from Universal.

Paramount has taken the 4k/UHD Blu-ray release to the next level. They are the first studio to really offer franchise sets so that you can watch your favorite film series in a complete collection. Here are some of the best from 2018 that any home theatre nut would be grateful to have under their tree. Just don't expect to spend a lot of time with them for a while. They're going to have some watchin' to do.

CBS still has the highest rated dramas on television. There have been quite a few good DVD sets from the network in 2017. Here's a look at my recommendations. These first two are shows that are currently airing reboots. But these Blu-rays are the original shows.

Warner Brothers continues to lead the industry with television on Blu-ray. Other studios have experimented with some of their shows but no one puts more TV out in HD than Warner Brothers. Here are some of my favorite titles from 2018. Any of them would look great under the tree this season. Warner also has a nice collection of DC films out on Blu-ray.

We stopped doing these memorials a couple of years ago. It's hard to take the time away from our lives and other work here at Upcomingdiscs. But sometimes we'll lose one of the great ones. This isn't a tribute to Stan Lee. He'll get plenty of those. These are just my own private thoughts. I want to say things many of you would like to say. I have a forum, so I'm going to use it. If immortality can be measured by the impact you leave behind or how many people continue to remember you and for how long after your gone. Then there's only one thing we can say about Stan Lee: "Face it, Tiger. You just hit the jackpot."
It's safe to say that if it hadn't been for Stan Lee, you would not be reading Upcomingdiscs today. There would be no review. No contests. That's because I would be a very different person, who likely would not have this deep passion for the fantastic miracles once projected on silver screens from dancing/flickering light. There are three men that I credit with my first exploration and appreciation for such nonsense. The first was my father who allowed me to stay up late with him to watch the Universal Monster films on late-night shows and Friday Night Shock Theatres.
