What started with The Polar Express led to a wonderful holiday special in the hands of Walt Disney with last year's charming A Christmas Carol. Now Disney has taken the magic one step farther with the recent release of Mars Needs Moms.

Well... anyone who has seen even one episode of HBO's half-hour comedy Eastbound & Down knows that isn't going to happen. Former major league pitcher Kenny Powers could no more easily blend into a crowd than Charlie Manson at a law enforcement convention.

"Welcome, Little Piggies, to The Task."
The reality show craze shows no sign of letting up. To some of us that's a horrible enough thought. But, to director Alex Orwell and writer Kenny Yakkel, it's the spark of inspiration for a rather entertaining new horror film from the folks at Lionsgate and After Dark Films. The film gives new meaning to the term survivor and offers us a glance at reality show people getting their just desserts. And this dessert comes with a lot of red syrup.

"You are now under quarantine."
The whole thing started with the Spanish film [REC]. In that film an apartment building in Spain was ground zero for a terrifying plague. The building was quickly isolated, and anyone trying to leave was gunned down mercilessly. It was one of those amateur-video kind of films that was told completely from the point of view of the people inside the building through camcorder footage.

Isn't technology grand? We live in a communication age that is unprecedented in human history. We carry devices, or at least most of us do, that provide the world at our fingertips on machines no larger than our palms. The internet allows us to have a world of information at those same fingertips. We do business over the net. You are reading a movie review over the net. But technology does have its problems. Cell phones mean distracted drivers and more accidents. Teen chat rooms mean that we can no longer guard our homes from the invasion of evil

"We are looking at an unexplained phenomenon. It appears to be a partially preserved severed head, maybe of a deformed person or a wild animal. Perhaps the metal base contained some sort of preservative presently unknown to us."
Or maybe it's the severed head of the titular Banshee from this SyFy original film Scream Of The Banshee. And, oh what a scream it is.

I have a lot of fond memories of this show from back when it first appeared in the mid-1970's. And while the series didn't last very long at all, it seems to have left a pretty strong impression on me as a child. My mother was a huge Dallas fan, and I remember the first time I had seen the show, and there was Patrick Duffy with body hair, and I knew that The Man From Atlantis had gone on his final mission.
