Intro
Everybody’s favorite reality based television show has come to video for the second time, courtesy of Paramount. Unfortunately this is not the complete second season of Survivor, only a “best of” compellation. We are introduced to the contestants that we have all come to either love (Elizabeth & Colby) or hate (Jerri & Kimmi), and are shown some of their footage from the show and the entry videos that the contestants submitted.
Audio
I would call the audio on this disc “made fo… TV.” sound. Even though this disc was presented in a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack, it felt like a basic television episode of Survivor. But really, this was basically a documentary about the second season of survivor, introducing the contestants and showing what they were all about on the show… how great could the sound be?
Video
Considering that this DVD originated on the small-screen rather than the silver-screen, the transfer looked pretty good. Similarly to the audio, it looked comparable to the television episodes, but with a little bit more crispness to the picture. The picture was the original full-frame presentation, which could cause issues if you own a widescreen television. All in all, the picture was good.
Features
The Special Features on this disc were lacking, to say the least. The only special feature in sight is a collection of retrospective interviews with every contestant. These interviews were taken on The Early Show, and are really interesting to watch. Everyone, individually, gets to reflect on how they played the game, and share their feelings about their experience on Survivor. Unfortunately, this was the only special feature found on the entire disc.
Closing Thoughts
If you LOVE survivor, then you really should own this disc… not because it is an amazing presentation with lots of special features, but because it brings back memories of the seasons past. We get to remember the contestants and the interesting relationships formed under the grueling circumstances of the show. If you are not a huge Survivor fan, you could probably do without this disc in your collection.
