Synopsis
Ten years after the events of Epoch 2000 (didn’t see it? then be prepared to beconfused), scientist David Keith and his son (apparently the result of an immaculate conceptionthanks to alien intervention) are on the run from the Genesis Coalition (a well-funded group ofnutcases devoted to expunging all things alien from the world). Alien rock formations, called“toruses” (they look like frozen tornadoes) rise from the ground, and good guys and bad guysdescend on them to discov…r their secrets. Meanwhile, the world is on the brink of nuclear wwarafter the Chinese (for some obscure reason) shoot down a US/Russian defense satellite.
I suppose, if I’d seen the first film, this might make a bit more sense. But I haven’t, and Iconfess to being thoroughly confused. No one seemed to have very good reasons for his/heractions, and nor, for that matter, do the great powers. It all moves along quite quickly, and thereis an astounding number of FX shots for a cheap movie, but it still has that underpopulated cheapfeel of a B-pic.
Audio
The 2.0 soundtrack does its best, and the rear speakers pump out the omnipresent score mostenthusiastically. The numerous explosions are also given a solid surround treatment, but by andlarge there isn’t a very impressive sense of immersion. There is also a little bit of sibilance onsome dialogue now and then.
Video
The picture if fullscreen and noticeably soft. There are also moments where the movementbecomes very jerky. If this effect was deliberate, it is very clumsy. The blacks are solid, and thecolours are fine, if a bit drab.

Closing Thoughts
Ambitious, event-filled, yet somehow flat. And after all, how can good can any film thatheadlines David Keith and Billy Dee Williams really be?
