Intro
This is an interesting film; not for the fact that it is a really good film, but for the fact that it was totally shot digitally. This method of filmmaking creates an interesting feel for the film, as if it was shot with a home video camera chronicling the life of the characters.
Synopsis
DIARY OF SEX ADDICT is the erotic and disturbingly arousing glimpse into the obsessive life of a sexual compulsive. By all outward appearances, Sammy Horn’s (Des Barres) life appears to be the …icture of domestic bliss — devoted husband, loving father and successful businessman. But Sammy is leading a double life. He is a sex addict driven by impulses he is powerless to control. And while he is busy feeding his addiction and indulging his obsession, he will lie to the people he cares about and hurt the people that care about him in his never-ending quest for a fix.
Audio
This is a very dialog based movie. Considering this, the audio was good. The center channel was effective in transmitting the voices clearly and loudly. The surrounds were rarely used, and when they were, it was mainly for the score. Effects from the rear channels were few and far between, and the base response was minimal. If you are looking for a film that engulfs the listener, this DVD will not impress.
Video
Being a digitally shot film, the transfer looks great. There are no artifacts in the picture, and there is not pixilation or granulation. Unfortunately the colors looked very muted. No work was done to enhance the look of the picture, making it look more like a home movie then a motion picture. The blacks were good, but not overly sharp. It is cool to see what digital filmmaking can do in terms of the digital to digital transfer, but lots of work still needs to be done to master the medium. Both 1.85:1 Widescreen and 1.33 Full Frame aspect rations are included.
Features
Unfortunately this disc contained minimal special features. The only notable content is a collection of 5 trailers to other sexy films by Columbia-Tristar. That’s it, that’s all.
Closing Thoughts
If you have seen Timecode, and enjoyed the method of camerawork, this film is for you. The story is adequate, but nothing stellar. The video and audio can be considered good, depending on what you are looking for. I would recommend you see this DVD, but it is not worth buying.
