I’ve got a confession. I just don’t get it. The Real World lays claim to being one of the first “reality” shows, dating back almost ten years. If you get off on watching a group of 7 twenty-somethings pretending to be spontaneous while basically either making out or grossing out, then this DVD is for you. This particular version is a season that was deemed too “hot” for broadcast TV so never appeared on MTV.
Audio
The Real World was made for TV using mostly remote microphones and it shows “Confessional” sound quality is actually quite good, but most of this stuff is low-end TV quality.
Video
The Real World is presented in a “Full Screen” format, which basically means standard TV frame. Most of this was shot on handhelds, so the framing can sometimes drive you nuts. Otherwise, you’ll get standard broadcast quality here.
Special Features
There is a short tour of the elaborate hotel suite the group “lived” in. You’ll also get one minute profiles of each of the group.
Final Thoughts
One of the housemates said it best: “Sorry, Mom”
