With seemingly every TV show coming out on DVD as of late you know it was only a matter of time before MTV jumped on the bandwagon. Cribs is one of their longest running series and this discs looks at the homes of 8 different rockers and one of their own VJ’s. Follow along as we venture in to the living quarters of Incubus, Tommy Lee, Rob Zombie, Fieldy (the bass player for Korn), Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker of Blink 182, Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) and MTV VJ Ian Robinson.

Video
We have a fullscreen transfer from mainly handheld cameras so the quality is all over the place. On the tour of Tommy Lee’s palace the videographer apparently forgot what white balance is and we have a very orange looking image. Then we move on to Mark Hoppus’ hideaway and we get a nicely balanced image that is very sharp. The transfer overall is good with the exception of heavy edge enhancement. The menu is straight forward, animated with audio and is easy to navigate.
Audio
Shot mainly using portable hand held cameras the audio here is pretty simplistic. We have A Dolby Surround mix that makes use mainly of the center channel only for these dialogue driven home tours. Music plays in the background continually and that is really the only thing that the front stereo channels are used for and same goes for the surround. Bass is essentially non-existent, but dialogue is well recorded and easy to understand. Nothing earth shattering but, it gets the point across.
Special Features
The special features are the inclusion of Jacoby Shaddix’s House (Papa Roach) and a trailer for more MTV DVD’s, pretty low-end if you ask me.
Final Thoughts
Having a look at how the rich and famous live seems to show two things, one being that some of these people have more money then they know what to do with. Such as Fieldy from Korn who has a 4000sq ft garage for his 15 cars? The other being that these guys are just normal everyday people like Mark Hoppus from Blink 182. Worth a rental but that’s it in my books.
