Synopsis
Disney has released a DVD that appears to be part of a compilation, and provided some karaoke subtitles and marketing it as a sing-along entitled “You Can Fly”. With animated (but dated) introductions by Disney characters, the songs featured are from such films as Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins and Dumbo.
For those who enjoyed Disney films in previous years, some of the obscure songs (along with some of the more popular ones) have been resurrected on …his tape, but the unfortunate thing is that it’s only 28 minutes in length, without any substantive features of note. While it would have been nice to get some more songs, this seems to be an easy in, easy out project by Disney.
Video
The problem with this compilation is that it seems to pull directly from a video tape of some sort, with a lot of cheesy ‘80s graphics or something. And the film clips that are part of the package appear to be in poor shape, and I think some of these things are already on remastered DVD I think. It’s disappointing, but not surprising.
Audio
There a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack that accompanies this DVD, and it sounds OK, but the rear speakers sound VERY subtle. It sounds like this was upmixed to a 5.1 track, so points for the effort.
Special Features
Well, anything that has a total runtime of under a half hour should probably have SOME extras, but there aren’t any here. No big deal.
Closing Thoughts
It’s a nice quick thing to occupy your kids time, and some of the songs will bring back memories, but there’s nothing here that you can’t find with better video elsewhere.
