Synopsis
Blinded in a horse-riding accident, Mia Farrow comes to live with her uncle and aunt in thecountry, and manages to get around the familiar spaces quite well. Unfortunately, her uncle’s carearlier splashed the cowboy boots of a psychotic killer. He descends on the house while Farrowis out, and kills everyone there. She returns, unaware that she is surrounded by corpses, and thatthe killer may return. Though the premise (blind woman versus a killer) bears some similarityto th… Audrey Hepburn thriller Wait Until Dark, the idea is given an even nastier twisthere. Rather than confront the villain on home turf, our heroine is soon herself thrown into utterlyunknown terrain. While some might find Farrow’s screams and tears a bit wearying, the resultis still extremely tense, with the paranoia-inducing premise squeezed to the utmost.
Audio
A mono soundtrack, and you really won’t miss the stereo, given that so much of the film useseerie silence. The mono is, for the most part, very clean, barring one or two instances where thevoices distort (something that sounds like a problem on the source material, rather than with thetransfer). The music has a good sound, and isn’t tinny at all.
Video
A nice, 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen trasnfer. There are a few speckles, and now and thena bit of grain, but the movie is over thirty years old, and the print is otherwise in very fine shape.The picture is sharp and clear, and the colours are terrific, with sharp, stable contrasts. The blacksare particularly good, and overall this is a nicely atmospheric piece of work, perfect for 89minutes of anxiety.

None to speak of: trailers for See No Evil, Homicidal and Obsession,but that’s it. The menu is basic.
