Intro

From the washed out video to the sappy Barry Manilow songs the best that can be said about this disc is it might be a good babysitter for a 3 year old.

Synopsis

The story is derived from the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale Thumbelina. After Thumbelina falls in love with a fairy prince she is kidnapped by a family of show toads, and upon her escape goes from one adventure to the next in trying to find her true love.

Audio

The audio is presented in Dol…y Digital 2.0 and the separation is acceptable but not spectacular. The dialogue sometimes loses out to the background music.

Video

The colour is flat and boring. I realize this film was released in 1994 but other older animated DVDs that I’ve seen have a crisp appearance. In Thumbelina the characters blend in with the backgrounds. The makers seem to have slapped in a VHS, started dubbing the film, and gone for a coffee break. There is a full frame version of the movie on one side and a 1.78:1 widescreen version on the other.

Features

Virtually none to speak of…a couple of trailers for the movie and various trailers for other Fox releases. The back of the DVD case claims there is a featurette on the disc but for the life of me, I couldn’t find it. English and Spanish subtitles are included.

Closing Thoughts

If you are going to buy a children’s movie to satisfy your youngster there are plenty of others out there that you can spend your hard earned money on.
