Two guys enter a 3-on-3 Basketball tournament, but they stink. They work at a morgue and their crazed former coworker reanimates a gigantic man…they put him on their team…he’s good because he’s big (almost automatically)…they try to get money, girls and yadda yadda yadda, you can guess how it turns out for them.
This film is a mundane, predictable tale that is low on the laughs and big on the stereotypes. Our two heroes even lure in the zombie giant to be friend’s with them with fried chicken and weed! I’m not black but I was feeling rather offended by the amount of lowbrow and unfunny stereotypes being deployed.
The performances are amatuerish at times, the story is weak, the conflict is either contrived or token. Bob Sapp gives the best performance in the whole film as the resurrected behemoth, and it is largely made up of either monstrous grunts or the innocent reactions of a special-needs child. I say this mainly as an insult to the film as a whole.
In reality, nothing works in this walking corpse of comedy cliches.
Video
The 1.78 Widescreen looks decent enough. It’s a tad washed out looking at times but is overall acceptable.
Audio
The sound for the film is available in Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1
The main menu is 10x louder than the film, forcing you to rush for the volume knob anytime you enter it. There is never a good balance anywhere on the DVD. In the film, music sometimes arrives as a whisper, other times the bass is overpowering. The dialogue, and overall soundtrack really, is inexplicably quiet. The special features are louder than the film and quieter than the menus. It is annoying to have your hand on the remote throughout my entire experience with this DVD.
Subtitles available in English and Spanish.
Special Features
Deleted Scenes: Stuff that would not have helped the movie anyhow, save for one joke about figuring out how much to bribe the bouncer at a club which could have been the funniest thing in the film, had it remained.
Behind the Scenes: Interviews and reflections on the making of the film. Having watched the film, I don’t believe how pleased they are with it.
The only other item is some trailers for Lionsgate.
Final Thoughts
I had my hopes up thinking this would be so campy it’d be entertaining. I was very much let-down. There is nothing worth searching for in this. Everyone is better off looking elsewhere.
