You’re going to be seeing a lot from Anchor Bay’s Zombie Killers: Elephant’s Graveyard. It’s a new and interesting zombie franchise from writer/director Harrison Smith. No, not the one who plays for my NFL Vikings. More on him later. (The director, not the football player). The film stars, among others Felissa Rose. You might remember her as the 13 year old baddie in Sleepaway Camp. She’s been busy lately. You can catch her in Zombie Killers. This week Image Entertainment releases The Reagans: The Legacy Endures. It’s a documentary on the life and presidency of Ronald Reagan. He was the 40th US President and certainly left his mark on history. The sportscaster turned actor turned political icon oversaw a critical period in world history. The Cold War was ending and the war on terror was just beginning. Robert Kline wrote and directed this intimate look at the Reagan Years. I had a chance to talk with him about the project. A while back Normandy reviewed The Junior Spy Agency, written and directed by Tom Whitus. It took a while and word got back to Tom and he was gracious enough to offer up some of his valuable time. Anyone who has seen the Starz pirate drama Black Sails knows who Hannah New is. She plays the feisty Eleanor Guthrie. Eleanor runs the Island where all of the pirates sell their booty. It’s a powerful position for a woman of 1715. Hannah New is up to the challenge and I had a chance to chat with her recently about her role on Black Sails. She’s just as much fun as her character. On Jan 6th, 2015 Image Entertainment will be releasing The Houses That October Built on DVD and Blu-ray. It’s a found footage film that chronicles a group of friends who take to the road to visit independent haunted houses (haunts) during Halloween season. It’s a frightening tale that leads them to the ultimate fright. The film was written by Zack Andrews and Bobby Roe. Roe also directed the film. Both of these guys also appear in the film. Free Fall just out on Blu-ray/DVD from Anchor Bay might be Malek Akkad’s first feature film as a director. That doesn’t mean he’s exactly new to the business. You could say he was born to it. He’s been officially part of the Halloween franchise since The Curse Of Michael Myers (Halloween VI). His father was along for the ride from the beginning. I got to talk to Malek about both Free Fall and Halloween. I was a bit envious to hear him talk about “running around the set of Halloween as a child”. Most of you know Sarah Butler from her strong performance in I Spit On Your Grave. The remake might have gotten mixed reviews but Butler’s strong showing has helped to create a promising career. In Free Fall she gets to work with Halloween producer Malek Akkad and screen legend Malcolm McDowell. I had a chance to chat with Sarah about the new film coming October 28th from Anchor Bay. Daniel Stamm is one of those directors who comes along once in a while with some fresh ideas. He’s given us the controversial A Necessary Death, The Last Exorcism and 13 Sins. There are some rather nice chills to be found in his films, but whatever you do: Don’t call him a horror director. Okay, you can call him a horror director, if you want. Last week I shared my conversation with Joseph Millson from The Dead 2: India. This week I had the opportunity to talk to the guys who made the film possible. Of course, I’m talking about The Ford Brothers Howard J. and Jon. We go deep inside the film and you get to listen in. I must warn you that Jon’s connection wasn’t so great and it will be harder to hear him speak. I apologize for the sub-par audio. It was the best we could do under the circumstances. Don’t let that stand in the way of helping us celebrate the Sept. 16th release of The Dead 2: India from Anchor Bay. Howard J.’s audio is just fine. Anchor Bay is releasing The Dead 2: India on Tuesday (9/16). We’ve got John Ceballos at work on the review. In the meantime I had a lot of fun talking to the film’s star Joseph Millson last week. We talked about everything from Pop Tarts to working with the Ford Brothers. Millson is also known for playing in Casino Royale and the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. If you’ve had a chance to catch the film Sanctuary: Quite A Conundrum you know the name Thomas L. Phillips. The film has taken a heap of awards on the film festival circuit and is finally available on DVD for the fans. It’s more black comedy than horror but Phillips takes delight in one critic calling it Clerks meets Scream. I had the opportunity to chat with Phillips on Friday. A while back we reviewed the film Lucky Bastard. (Review) Since that time the film’s creative folks have taken a little heat. The film is rated NC-17 but it’s neither particularly violent or pornographic. Naturally, these guys have something to say. I ended up talking to Lukas Kendall, one of the co-writers. Once again I caught up with director Declan O’Brien. We talked with him after he had finished Wrong Turn 4. We reviewed Wrong Turn 5 where Declan continued to impress. He is one of the best when it comes to dealing with budgets. He makes sure every cent is on the screen. He did it again with Joy Ride 3. Yet another franchise saved. Karl Mueller is a new director on the horror scene. His Mr. Jones is out today from Anchor Bay. It’s a sort of hybrid “found footage” and nightmare thriller. I had a remarkable time talking to Bren Foster the other day. His latest film is Anchor Bay’s Force Of Execution. The film also stars Steven Seagal and Ving Rhames. Bren’s a championship Martial Arts fighter. Many of his fans know him from his long run on the soap opera Days Of Our Lives. Time-Life and Star Vista have rescued Mama’s Family from home video oblivion. Finally, the entire series is available on DVD. We’re going to have more on that later. Aerosmith went to Japan and gave the fans a little bright spot after the natural disasters that have struck the country recently. They braved radiation scares to bring the nation some music. Casey Tebo was there with his documentary cameras and has put together a film to chronicle the milestone tour. Most of you know Ricky Schroder. He was the child actor from Silver Spoons in the 1980”s. In the 1990’s grew up fast and took on NYPD Blue. All along the way he has redefined his image. Now he’s a family man. The entire Schroder clan has recently put together the Hallmark film Our Wild Hearts. The film stars Ricky, two sons, and his daughter Cambria in her first staring role. He co-wrote the film with wife Andrea and directed the movie. I recently had the opportunity to chat with him about his family and the latest film. Shadow People is out from Anchor Bay this week. It’s a most unusual horror film that blends real documentary information with a standard horror film.
