Synopsis
Nothing really to summarize here: 13 clips of musical numbers from everything from TheLion King to Pinocchio to Aladdin. Captions encourage viewers to sing along. There are severalnew songs from recent direct-to-video movies too.
Audio
This isn’t a sound effects disc, so what is of interest is the music, and the 5.1 mix is verysolid: distortion free but not too deafening.
Video
Strong and sharp, with the colours generally vi…rant, but depending on the source material.By and large a handsome looking product, with strong contrasts and blacks, and no obvioustransfer problems.
Special Features
The menu (once it comes up after the obligatory trailers for The Lion King Special Edition,Rolie Polie Olie: The Baby Bot Chase and Stanley) is very user friendly, cheerfully animated andwith a voice-over that tells viewers how to use the disc. The other activities are a vocabularybuilder and a music game. The word game, with “Beginner” and “Advanced” options, asks youeither to correctly identify objects by their name (for viewers who don’t really read yet), or tospell the word properly. The music game requires you to play back a tune, and I have to say Istumbled through this a bit. Kids with deep video game capabilities probably won’t find itdifficult.
Closing Thoughts
Putting together footage from other films isn’t exactly a budget-buster. Young childrenshould have some fun with this, though.
