Milo and company return in the follow-up to Disney’s Atlantis. In the original film Milo and company find the lost city of Atlantis and Milo stays behind to help rebuild it. Here he returns to the surface world to help with ancient creatures that are threatening that world. Follow along as they battle an ancient see monster, a coyote windstorm and an ancient Norse god and along the way discover the true power of the Heart of Atlantis.
Video
As is the case with most of the new Disney animate… direct ot video releases the video quality is average. Again there are no real issue with the transfer just that the animation is not any better then your average Saturday morning cartoon, the first Atlantis film was one of the best looking cell animated movie I have ever seen and this is far below that standard. Presented in a family friendly 1.66:1 Anamorphic widescreen format, overall the video is a disappointment as we have come to expect more then this from Disney.
Audio
In what has become standard as of late for all Disney releases we have both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 audio tracks. Both formats are equally good sounding, the rears are used to good effect with decent bass, the dialogue has a couple of issues with intelligibility but other then that the audio track ins pretty decent. My main issue is again that the original Atlantis had an amazing reference audio track that this just falls short of. Also included is a French 2.0 audio track.
Special Features
With the inclusion of one deleted scene and a “Search for the Spear of Destiny Game” this again just falls short of what we are used to seeing from Disney. Menus are scored with no motion but are easy to navigate.
Final Thoughts
The first Atlantis film was a critical failure with a poor storyline, what saved the DVD release was both a reference quality video transfer and audio track and a good dose of special features. This film does not improve on the storyline at all and the video, audio and special features all fall short. Rent it for the kids and leave it at that.
