Synopsis
The Legend of the gunfighter who wears the red scorpion jacket has come to South Beach in Miami. When the parking valet at a local strip club gets pulled into the legend he hinds himself the target of a mob hit and running for his life. Throw a sociopathic blonde into the mix and he might as well finish himself off before someone does it for him.
Audio
This film has a number of gunfights and I expected the audio to be above average but, instead it is somewhat belo… average. The rear channels are used very occasionally, strangely enough though the front channels are well used with some very good imaging across the front stage. Dialogue is well recorded and easy to understand occasionally though the dialogue levels fluctuate and you will find yourself digging out the remote control, the low end information in this Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is lacking with the subwoofer never really getting much of a workout outside of the audio on the menus. Also included are Fench and English subtitles.
Video
The overall look of the film is somewhat grainy and soft, we have a 1.33:1 fullscreen transfer that is well done though. There is very little visible film grit and debris and no edge enhancement the problem simply is that the film master is noisy and soft giving the film a very low budget look. The menus are very well done motion menus with score that are easy to navigate.
Special Features
I was not expecting much in the way of special features for this film and was presently surprised to find a making of documentary that even includes some outtakes from the auditions. We have some trailers as well one being for this film (makes it look much better then it is), a vampire flick called Frost:Porttrait of a Vampire, The Pool a teen slasher film and a gangster film called Menace. Lastly there is a storyboard one of the pivotal scenes in the film. Overall a better then expected extras package that is well executed.
Final Thoughts
Take one part Pulp Fiction dash of Memento and a pinch of Desperado and you get a potentially interesting idea. The film is entertaining but ultimately can not pull it off, the story line and the acting is a little weak and in the end just falls flat. The Cuban gangsters are fun to watch as bumbling mobsters, but the ending is predictable and there is simply not enough back story offered for the blonde to make here character involving. Not a bad rental on a slow or a good purchase for all you B flick fans.
