Secret agent/crime fighter by night…high school cheerleader by day…Disney brings us Kim Possible. The DVD is subtitled The Villain Files. Kim Possible is an original TV show made by Disney. The Villain Files have four episodes for Possible fans. In each segment, Kim battles an arch enemy all the while trying to keep up her pom poms at the local high school. Her buddy, Ron Stoppable, is along for the ride.
Kim Possible has an intriguing premise. For kids watching, it has the best …f two “possible” worlds. You have the high school “like” and “as if” aspect, and you have the secret agent butt kicking part. How does Kim manage to juggle both lifestyles? That’s the fun of the series. Just when you think Kim is managing to have a “normal” teenage life, there’s Dr. Drakken mucking things up with those world take-over plans.
Audio
When the full Dolby Digital 5.1 mix comes into action, the audio track is at its best. This mostly occurs during action sequences. But mostly, the front speakers get a lot of action. Not a lot of bang for your 5.1. But the sound comes through strong and clear.
Video
The colors pop out at you. Kim Possible is vibrant, bold, and great to look at it. I’m talking about the show here. I can’t imagine the show looking as good when it’s broadcast on the tube. Since the details are so sharp there is slight edge enhancement. It is also presented in full screen 1:33:1… but these are minor quibbles.
Special Features
There’s a Villain House Party where you get sent on a mission to find out info on the baddies in the show. This is really just a character bio feature all jazzed up in covert operations. But it suits the style of the show.
There’s a music video that’s not very good, and a chance to register your DVD! A gripe about the DVD though, it takes forever to get to the main menu. You have to click through 7 chapters of previews. Yuck. Just get me to Kim Possible!
Final Thoughts
Kim Possible: The Villain Files is a fun DVD for kids who like the show. For those who are new to the show, watch it on TV before a purchase. But you’ll get much better video and sound on the DVD. There aren’t many special features, but the fun nature of the show and the DVD quality could warrant a rental. Maybe next time Disney will put out more episodes. You know… it’s really hard being a secret agent/cheerleader. Believe me… I applied.
