If you were to take the movie Kill Bill, mix it with the Karate Kid, and then put it into animation form, the end result would be Chop Socky Chooks.
Featuring 13 of the most wackiest adventures and martial arts mayhem that one has ever seen, volume one of Chop Socky Chooks shows three chickens Chick P, KO Joe and Chuckie Chan “battling virtual villains, karaoke crazies, rogue robots, prehistoric predators and even fast-food fiends” all in hopes to save Wasabi World from the powers that be.
While the outer box makes one who isn’t familiar with the former cartoon network show, wonder if this is a racist cartoon seeing as how the main characters appear to be an African American crime fighter with an afro (and a pick to accompany it), an Asian lady with a black mark on her forehead and a tiny Chinese man—who just happens to specialize in Karate, it is safe to say that this cartoon is anything but. Instead, it’s an action based cartoon that’s meant to make even the oldest of kids minds expand.

Video:
Shown in a 1.78:1 widescreen video aspect ratio, this 286 minute AC-3 animated series has a clay animation film aspect to it, mixed with Japanese animation. Most of the lines in the show are curvy and round, but the transfer to DVD comes off beautifully. There are no deep darks and no bright spots to be seen.
Audio:
This disc uses the standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track which is pretty common. Not a lot of music is played in the background, so your speakers will not get a workout while watching this disc, but it has a clean sound to it, so that’s an enjoyment in itself.
Special Features:
This disc does not contain any special features.
Final Thoughts:
At first I really could not get into the series because I was never a fan of anime or Japanese animation, but after a while I left that thought behind me and just concentrated on the storylines and set up of each episode. If you’re into action cartoons, this is a nice choice for you, and if you’re tired of watching Sponge-Bob or any other Nickelodeon show, it’s a nice buy for the kids at home, as well.
