Synopsis
Chastity (Cher) is a runaway, careening from one encounter to the other in a desperate searchfor herself and an attempt to escape the nightmare of her past. Mostly this means wanderingaround in an extremely sullen mood and treating everyone around her like dirt. How verysympathetic. This 1969 effort pretty much encapsulates everything that could make a sixties filmintolerable. Precious and portentous, it achieves a certain degree of unintentional comedy. SEE!The endless ope…ing shot of a despairing Cher running toward the camera (the kind of thing thatwas deliberately funny in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. SEE! Writer/producer SonnyBono’s rather sheltered conception of what bottomless depravity at a bordello might consist of.SEE! The most heeeee-lariously pretentious lesbian love scene ever committed to film (and that’ssaying something).
Audio
Another mono soundtrack. Not much to remark on here, other than that it gets the job done,,there is no hiss, and it is very much preferable to a bad stereo remix. This isn’t a musical, so youwon’t regret tons of songs not getting the surround treatment.
Video
The opening is a bit murky, with a fair bit of grain and a soft picture. Most of the time, however, the print is in good shape, the blacks are decent, and the colours are strong. The imageseems to become sharper as the movie progresses.
Special Features
Nothing by the hilarious teaser: “She’s not a girl. She’s an Experience!” Oooooooh!
Closing Thoughts
Not uninteresting, if viewed as train-wreck of a wank-fest. Otherwise, crap.
