What do a string of prostitute murders, lesbian vigilantes, a sexually confused cop, a senate race, a prominent prosecutor turned law professor, and a law school dropout have in common? After watching Pendulum you will be asking the same questions. Seldom have I seen a more disjointed collection of clichés and bad acting in one film outside of an Ed Wood film festival. Rachel Hunter might have been a gorgeous supermodel but like so many before her she’s just not believable here. Many of the aforementioned sins might …e forgivable if the ending in some way satisfied. I’m sorry to announce this film ends badly (for the viewers, not the characters).
Audio
A tame Dolby Digital 2.0 track offers nothing dynamic. Dialogue isn’t even clear much of the time. All-in-all, this track was very disappointing.
Video
Maybe it’s just me, but why is a full frame pan & scan version of even a bad film like Pendulum listed as a “Special Feature”. Next thing you know, just having any content at all will be touted as “extra value bonus material”. This is a pretty lame full format image. Colors are adequate. Blacks are extremely grainy with no believable depth at all.
Special Features
Just a poor transfer of a trailer.
Final Thoughts
Pendulum tries to be sexual without ever being sexy. It makes an attempt at suspense, but is never suspenseful. There’s an obvious effort to excite, but the film is never exciting. Even the soundtrack sounds borrowed from a dozen other films. My advice to you is, skip the film. May the filmmakers take their own advice and “Stop playing little cat and mouse games”.
