Synopsis
Our quartet continue to get laid, or not, depending on the ups and downs of decreed by thefates. There is a baby among them now (whose baptism or not is a point of contention), andCarrie gets a book deal. As the appeal of this series remains utterly mystifying to me, I shallrefrain from further comment.
Audio
The audio is in 5.1 and 2.0, but hardly strains the capabilities of either format. The music getnice treatment, but it is virtually the…only element to have a surround presence. There are noeffects to speak of to be heard from the rear speakers. The dialogue (which is, after all, the mainasset of the series) is sometimes a bit sibilant.
Video
Not the most stellar video transfer either. The picture is rather grainy and soft, the colours area bit off: orange, especially, goes neon in a very unfortunate way. The edge enhancement is alsoquite visible. There are certainly far sharper TV transfers out there.
Special Features
The extras follow the same pattern as on earlier releases. Mastermind Michael Patrick Kingprovides commentary on episodes 1, 5 and 8, clearly delineating what he and his co-writerswanted to achieve with the season. Each episode is accompanied by its trailer and a summary.Disc 2 also has a 20-minute featurette on the costume design, and a trivia game based on theseason. As before, the episodes don’t have chapter breaks. The menu’s main page and transitionsare animated and scored.
Closing Thoughts
As TV season collections go, this is acceptable, but not stellar. Certainly the picture coulddo with improvement, but the commentaries are very good.
