Synopsis
A group of extreme athletes and a professional skier set out on a remote Austrian mountaintop to shoot a stunt for a commercial. Unbeknownst to them a group of terrorists is in hiding at the mountain top resort. The film makers have a habit of filming everything that goes on and they accidentally capture one of the terrorists on film, now they must fight for their lives to survive the mountain and the terrorists.
Audio
Featuring your expected mix of rap and altern…tive rock/punk the audio on this Dolby Digital 5.1 rocks pretty good. The audio could be exceptional but suffers from some inconsistency. During some of the action sequences it is really good and then sometimes it just seems to loose its impact the rears speakers go flat and the bass just does not have the impact that it should. The dialogue is intelligible and easy to understand at all times but, the effects are just inconsistent. The disc also includes a French Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track.
Video
The video is very good, we have both a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer as well as a 1.33:1 fullscreen transfer. The transfer is impeccable, nice and sharp with nice punchy colors. Some of the CGI does not look as good as it could and there are inconsistencies in the quality of the footage but, this is a fault of the film not the transfer.
Special Features
The extra features are two film previews for Star Trek Nemesis and Abandon, the menus are pretty poor stills with no score.
Final Thoughts
Trying to cash in on the success of xXx, this film fails horribly. The story line is not bad and then they rush the ending and completely kill it off. The audio had potential to be outstanding, but does not deliver. At least the transfer is first rate… and I really don’t know if there is anything else to be said for this disc.
