Synopsis
First there was Highlander, a with a Frenchman playing a Scot, and a Scot playing aSpaniard. The concept was as loopy as the casting, but the movie was exciting and looked damngood. Nobody went to see the sequels, but the premise was revived on TV, and met with greatersuccess, greatly elaborating the basic mythology of the race of Immortals at war with each other,whacking off each other’s heads in the quest for the great gift of The Quickening.

< ...>A 5.1 mix provides a big, rich sound, one that is actually more impressive than a fair bit ofTV releases. The music, as ever, dominates, but when given a chance, the FX sound pretty goodtoo.
Video
A gorgeous transfer, with none of the grain that I’ve seen in some other TV boxed sets. Theblacks are deep, deep, deep, and there is no edge enhancement apparent. A very clear, sharppicture.
Special Features
Every episode comes with fairly elaborate character sketches (which is useful, given howcomplicated this time-hopping can become), and a brief introduction by exec-producer BillPanzer. Disc 8 also has a blooper reel and a “Making of” featurette (which is just a bunch ofpromotional fluff strung together). Disc 9 (and this is a nice touch) is a CD-ROM of the season’sscripts. Finally, there is a little booklet of liner notes.
Closing Thoughts
Not much by way of commentary is provided, but the character sketches will be a big helpfor anyone trying to keep all these people straight, and the overall package is sharplypresented.
