Synopsis
There are five episodes here, going all the way back to arrival of Santa’s Little Helper (in“Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”) and featuring such classics as the “Mr. Plow” episode.Admittedly, that one has more to do with snow than Christmas itself, but what the hell. Sure, thisis pure marketing (and don’t bother if you’re already buying the complete seasons in boxed sets),but there’s plenty of comic gold here too.
Audio
The sound is 2.0, a…d the surround is almost entirely limited to the music. The sound effectsare very front-heavy, and rarely (if ever) emerge from the rear speakers. The sound is extremelyclean, with no distortion on a syllable of the always witty dialogue. Some of said dialogue does, however, sometimes go into surround mode when it shouldn’t.
Video
I almost needed sunglasses, so bright are the colours on this transfer. They explode off thescreen, and are perfectly solid: no grain or bleed to be seen. The blacks are terrific too. All in all,an extremely attractive transfer of pristine prints.
Special Features
The only extra is a short compilation of Mr. Burns moments. This hardly rates as an extra. The menu is basic.
Closing Thoughts
Picture aside, there’s nothing really outstanding about this package, other than havingsimilarly themed episodes grouped conveniently together. But this is The Simpsons afterall, so the laughs are guaranteed.
