Lost Lake is an incomprehensible mess. Think David Lynch with less sense. If that makes any. The story takes place at an isolated ski lodge. Cue the entrance of exotic hottie Kat Walker (played by Angel Boris). The movie is hard to describe. Let’s just say…the ski lodge has some really weird guests. And pee can make frozen privates thaw from metal. Didn’t you know that? An avalanche also comes into play. Kat starts having “visionsâ€. I dunno. The plot is convoluted and makes Mulholland D…ive look like logic. The dialogue is laughable, but there are some nudie shots and cool skiing stuff to make this dreck a little more watchable.
Audio
The Dolby Digital 2.0 track is passable. The bad dialogue can be heard clearly enough (a little too clearly). The movie was shot on digital video, so the audio quality varies. Levels and environment are inconsistent, at times. Directionality is reasonable, but not implemented terribly well.
Video
This unanamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen transfer is adequate for a digital feature. Slight shimmering and edge enhancement are evident. The white snow looks nice though. Colors and flesh tones are natural. Blacks are not as deep as they could be. Some good work for digital; too bad the movie is terrible.
Special Features
There is an audio commentary from Writer/Director Anthony Leigh Adams and Writer/Producer Christina Adams. This is a drab commentary, and the filmmakers sound like they think this is a great film. It’s not. Wake up people! There is also a featurette called “Experiencing Lost Lakeâ€. I don’t want to experience it again, thank you very much. It’s sad to hear the cast say what a great film this is. An alternate ending is also included, with commentary. Doesn’t make the film any better. Lastly, there is a trailer for the film.
Final Thoughts
Lost Lake needs to be seen to be believed. But, if you’ve glanced at this review, you might not rent it. Or maybe you’re into bad films. The extras are okay, but Lost Lake will leave viewers out to sea.
