Three young couples on a road trip leave their turtled vehicle and march through the dark woods, hoping to find the highway again. (Clearly Mensa candidates, each and every one.) They stumble upon an apparently abandoned secret facility, and naturally blunder in. A psychically powered lunatic uses astral projection to do bad things to them. People start to die. No great loss.
Think through this equation for me, will you? Direct-to-video + walking-around-tunnels-plot + Tara Reid = ? What do you think? That the movie is not a COMPLETELY incompetent mess at the technical level is a minor miracle. That it would be anything other than tedious, however, would have required a major one.
Audio
If you’re going to be silly enough to watch this thing, at least you’ll be able to enjoy the sound. The environmental effects are quite impressive (thunder and whatnot booming ominously all around). The score is sinister and pounds hard. The dialogue is clear and undistorted (and also uninspired, but that’s another story). All in all, the sound is great. It’s the best thing about this disc.
Video
The blacks are very good, and the colours, depending on the lighting are pretty solid. The contrasts could use some work, however, as some scenes are murkier than they need to be. The flesh tones are a little erratic as well – one early scene has half the characters looking like they wandered out of Night of the Living Dead. The image is sharp, though, and the grain is minimal.
