In the Bedroom carries with it some very powerful acting performances. The story is good, but not as great as it was hyped up to be around the Academy Awards. If you like a very powerful drama, you will enjoy this film.
“Frank Folwer is a young man home from college. He develops a special relationship with an older woman and their love blossoms in their small New England town. Natalie is the older woman (Tomei) and has two children from her marriage to an abusive husband. When this abusive ex…continues to meddle in this budding relationship, Frank’s parents (Spacek and Wilkinson) warn him to stay away. Following his heart, Frank stands by his woman, only to be shot and killed during a confrontation with her ex. Caught up in legalities, Frank’s father takes the law into his own hands and brings justice for his grieving wife.†– Buena Vista
Audio
This dialog driven soundtrack is just mediocre on DVD. The dialog is sometime hard to hear and understand (due to low recording levels), and the surrounds are lacking. On the positive side, the front channels are strong, and due to the style of film, the story is not lost through the lack of soundstage usage.
Video
This DVD looks good, but not great. Many of the colors are a little washed out, and the and the skin tones are a tad bit unnatural (but these could have been set intentionally by the director to set the mood for the4 film). There are some noticeable instances of slight grain and edge enhancements, but these flaws are not overly distraction. The 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer nicely conveys the mood of the film, and makes the film looks as it was supposed to look.
Special Features
It comes as quite a surprise that this disc contains NO special features other then the Sneak Peeks that play as the disc is inserted. The trailers included in the sneak peeks are Gangs of New York, Full Frontal, Baran, Behind the Sun, and Italian for Beginners.
Final Thoughts
This is a good film, and a decent DVD presentation. The video is quite good, and the audio is adequate. The lack of special features is disappointing, but the film is worth the purchase of this disc by itself.
