SpongeBob Squarepants: Tales from the Deep

Synopsis

By this time, you either like this guy or you don’t. There is a lot of fun goofiness here, butthere are also some ill-advised live-action additions (such as in “House Party” and “I Had anAccident”), which are just plain painful.

Audio

The 2.0 sound is crisp, clear, distortion-free and fun. The surround effect is pretty muchlimited to the music, but it’s pretty constant.

Video

As with the other SpongeBob DVDs, the picture is …eautiful: superbly crisp and with coloursso brilliant you’re almost blinded. A model for transferring TV material.

Special Features

As with all but the Nautical Nonsense release, the extras are minimal: an “Underwater Sun”video by the Bird Brains, a 2-minute interview with a background artist, the “House Party”storyboards in montage with dialogue but no music or effects, and a Nickelodeon trailer. Themenu’s main page is animated and scored. The menu generally is a so busy in its look that it isa bit hard to navigate.

Closing Thoughts

Oh, come on. If you’re reading this, you’ve seen the other SpongeBobs. Are you going topass this up? I don’t think so.

Special Features List

  • Nickelodeon Preview
  • “Drawing the Goo Lagoon” Interview
