Inspector Gadget returns to take on the nefarious Dr. Claw who has just escaped from prison in small town Riverton. Throw into the mix an all new and improved G2…all-robot, all-tech and all-female gadget and we have the potential for a ton of fun. Inspector Gadget (this time around played by French Stewart and G2 (Elaine Hendrix) are set to save the world with help from Penny, her dog Brain and the tricked-out Gadgetmobile.
Video
Full bright and colorful scenes and characters the quality o… the image of this disc is fantastic. The world of Inspector Gadget is loaded with bright punchy colors and a great transfer really helps this film shine. The only problem I could se was an extended layer transfer pause that was poorly placed in the film.
Audio
Loaded with fun special effects and a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track this discs not only looks good, it sounds even better. With all of the Inspectors gadgets there are lots off well used opportunity to take advantage of the steering (sound effect placement around the room) capabilities of a 5.1 digital soundtrack. Voices are natural sounding and easy to understand, bass is lacking a little but, is also not overabundant. One of the better sounding kids films I have seen in a while.
Special Features
Being a Disney disc, we have lots of special features, and goofy but easy to navigate motioned menus. We start thing s off with “the Animated Gadget” which allows you to go through Inspector Gadget and G2’s most used gadgets with explanations. Next is a gadget training simulation game followed with 13 behind the scenes featurettes, 6 deleted scenes and bloopers reel. We also have a story-board-to-film comparison and two different audio commentaries, one with Director Alex Zamm and the other with French Stewart, Elaine Hendrix and Alex Zamm (I found these to be a little much and very tedious especially for a kids movie). Rounding things out we have a music video for one of the songs in the movie and the ability to watch the movie with the movie soundtrack only.
Final Thoughts
Seeing as this movie is a follow-up to a really bad movie I have to admit going in I was not expecting to much and I was pleasantly surprised with a pretty decent movie. The effects, video and sound are all top notch and the story line and acting is far better then the first Inspector Gadget movie. I would almost put this on par with the first Spy Kids movie, if you have kids they are going to love this disc!
