Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 is one of the worst movies ever made. At least…that’s what I keep reading. Reviews have torched this movie, and I must concur. This movie is bad. And I don’t think the first one was much of a hit either. So why make this dreck?
The plot of the movie revolves around our little genius heroes saving the world from an evil TV mogul played by Jon Voight (need a paycheck?). This baddie wants to submit subliminal messges through kiddie TV and control children (and baby ta…k) all over the world. There’s a lot of kung fu between kids vs. adults, and Scott Baio shows up to proclaim to the world that HE IS NOT Chachi. The director Bob Clark has seen better days. Porky’s is a masterpiece compared to this pablum.
Audio
The 5.1 Dolby Digital track is unremarkable. The French 5.1 is the same. Surround speakers are mostly reserved for those whacky sound effects. The music and dialogue come through clear enough. I’m not sure if this movie warrants a 5.1 track. It won’t make the movie any better.
Video
The aspect ratio is a fullscreen 1.33:1. Widescreen wouldn’t have made a difference. The colors and blacks are good enough, I suppose. There is some slight edge enhancement and transfer specks. But watching the video quality, one can’t help thinking how bad this movie is.
Special Features
None. Thank the maker.
Final Thoughts
Unfunny and unnesessary. Two words a sequel should not be. The video and audio are merely adequate. Superbabies: Baby Genuiuses 2 sets new lows for movie quality. Hyped as a “family edition”, the DVD has been edited from its theatrical release. How can a kids movie be PG? Anyway you slice it, this movie needed a Baby Genius to make it.
